"I've Always Wondered" Recurring 2025 Sermon Series - Understanding Suffering

Episode Summary

This Sunday at Church of the Messiah, we were honored to welcome Bishop Hee-Soo Jung, Resident Bishop of the Ohio Episcopal Area, as part of our I’ve Always Wondered sermon series. Preaching from Jeremiah 18:1–11 and Luke 14:25–33, Bishop Jung addressed one of life’s most difficult questions: “Why do bad things happen to good people?” While scripture doesn’t give us a neat and tidy answer, Bishop Jung reminds us of the powerful image of clay in the potter’s hands. Even in seasons of brokenness and hardship, God does not discard us, but patiently reshapes us into something new. “Perhaps the better question is not why do bad things happen, but how shall we live when bad things do happen? Do no harm, do good, stay in love with God.” – Bishop Jung Bishop Jung is known throughout the church for his commitment to racial justice, radical inclusion, and global mission. His ministry has planted new congregations, expanded cross-racial leadership, championed immigration justice, and raised millions for global health initiatives such as Imagine No Malaria. 🙏 Whether you’re watching for the first time or reflecting on the message again, may you be encouraged to trust the One who holds us in tender, shaping hands. 📖 Scripture: Jeremiah 18:1–11; Luke 14:25–33
