In Week Four of The Third Way, Pastor Don explores Matthew 5:21-48 and some of Jesus’ most challenging words in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus takes familiar commandments about anger, relationships, truthfulness, retaliation, and enemies and pushes beneath outward behavior to the condition of the heart. Following Jesus means more than meeting the minimum requirements. Kingdom transformation begins beneath the surface. What does Jesus mean when he tells us to “be perfect”? Pastor Don invites us to hear this not as a demand for flawless performance, but as a call toward wholeness. Like clay in the hands of a potter, we are works in progress, continually being reshaped by God’s Spirit. The Third Way begins when we allow God to transform not only what we do, but our anger, desires, relationships, words, and capacity to love.
